Double and multiple stars introduced in the Input Catalog based on data from the Hipparcos satellite are described. It is noted that Hipparcos will provide data for an extended sample of 118,000 stars in astrometric and photometric uniform systems. A large subset of double and multiple systems represent more than 10 percent of the Input Catalog. The Hipparcos satellite makes it possible to increase the accuracy of the expected data by a factor of 10, but its short operational period which is 10 -100 times shorter than the majority of the known orbital period of visual double stars will have a negative impact on research on double and multiple systems.
