Observations of beta Persei were obtained during the eclipses of December 31, 1976, January 3, 1977, and February 3, 1977, from the Copernicus spacecraft. The spectrophotometric scans which covered the bottom of the Mg2 k line at various phases in the primary eclipse are discussed. Model absorption lines are computed for Algol A and for a differentially rotating disk of material around Algol A. The Algol A profile is removed from the data and the residuals analyzed for evidence of a circumstellar disk. The observational problems inherent in the data are discussed, and suggestions are made for future research.
