A study of morphological types of galaxies in the UGCG catalogue reveals a strong deficiency of normal elliptical galaxies among the Markarian galaxies. In the Markarian sample only ⪉1% of the objects are normal elliptical galaxies against 10% among other galaxies. There is an excess of barred spirals in the Markarian sample, approximately one-half of Markarian Sa-Scd spirals are barred, among non-Markarian spirals ≡1/3 are barred.
