Extensive spectroscopy has let us establish simple GRi color criteria that can be used to locate star-forming galaxies at z=1.0+/- 0.10 among the numerous foreground and background objects in deep images. We are proposing to use this color selection technique to produce a nearly complete survey of ~ 20000 star-forming galaxies with M(2500Å) > -15.5 in a large comoving volume (~ 3× 10^5 h^-3 Mpc^3) at redshift z~eq 1.0. This survey will be over 100 times larger and nearly 10 times deeper than the deepest existing magnitude limiting surveys at z~ 1. The detailed view of star formation at z~eq 1.0 that it provides will have many uses; among them, it will provide the first robust measurement of the UV luminosity function shape at z~ 1 and (we hope) the first view of the galaxies responsible for producing most of the 2500Aluminosity density at z~ 1.
