The UBVRI photometry of some 1000 stars in the neighborhood of the young complex IC 5146 has been obtained using PDS tracings of prime-focus plates taken with the Mayall 4 m telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO). An analysis of the images of clustering areas centered around BD + 46 degrees 3474 reveals a stellar population of 110 stars (+ or - 20 stars) with maximum ages of 10 to 30 million years. The stars are of spectral type K and the star forming efficiency of the region is determined to be 10 percent. A possible exciting source for the molecular CO hot spot (HS 1) is identified, and the nebular distribution of the region is discussed. A detailed list of the photometric data is provided.
