Based on observations of the total ozone content at a series of stations in Central Asia over a two-year period, it is found that the amount of N(O3) over the mountains is systematically higher than that over the surrounding plain regions, with the difference ranging from 30 to 80 Dobson units. The negative correlation of this difference with the horizontal wind velocity in the troposphere supports the argument that a decrease in N(O3) over the mountains is related to vertical motions generated by horizontal flow impinging on the Central Asian mountain range.
