A study of a decade of photometry of the BY Draconis star LQ Hya (HD 82558) is presented and an improved photometric rotation period 1.d601136±0.d000013 is derived. The changing light curves indicate that the spot configuration can sometimes evolve significantly on a time scale of a few months. The variation of the photometric rotation period is significant indicating the presence of differential rotation. On the other hand, if a constant period were assumed, the spots would concentrate on two active longitudes. The mean brightness shows a cycle with a period of 6.2 years having a peak to peak amplitude of about O.m1 in V. The mean effective temperature of LQ Hya also follows this cycle.
