At present, the development of tele-monitoring and tele- testing capabilities, which have to make possible to follow and interact with the AIV process of a spacecraft from remote locations, is winning more and more attention in the area of design and verification engineering. A study and prototyping work have been performed to investigate the basic ideas concerning the before mentioned tele-monitoring and tele-testing, especially in the fields of availability, easiness to use access and security. The first necessary step forward has been taken in the form of a Data Transfer Link (DTL), currently operating in the European Space Agency Test Centre. DTL makes possible to connect from any remote location in the world, to a test running in the ESTEC Large Space Simulator. The aspect of security during this operation is of extreme importance and will impose some limitations to future system implementations. Further activities on the tele-monitoring / tele-testing concept are also addressed.
