The time resolved spectrophotometric observations of VV Puppis obtained on 1979 February 2 showing evidence of high harmonic cyclotron absorption in te optical spectrum are presented. A series of models are discussed and it is shown that the shock region near the magnetic pole of the accreting white dwarf will give rise to a cyclotron absorption spectrum similar to that observed in VV Puppis.
