Pulsars: General, Methods: Data Analysis
Scientific paper
The importance of producing pulsar standard pulse profile is discussed, and the classical pulse superposition methods are analyzed. A novel profile cumulation way using Wavelet-Modulus-Maxima correlation information is proposed. First, original observation data is divided into sub-records each being of one pulse period width. Using wavelet transformation for the records, the wavelet coefficients including singularity information of the pulse peak over the signal's coarse scale is gotten. Second, selecting some one group's coefficients its raw record being of high S/N as reference data, the relative time delay of one pulse to the reference pulse is estimated through correcting any other record's coefficients with the reference record's. Finally, the numbers in each raw data record are then shifted circularly by the obtained delay amount required for proper phase registration and addition to produce a mean pulse profile. We can farther obtain the standard, unit amplitude pulse profile by background noise subtracting and profile smoothing. Analysis and experiment study show, the new method is simply, effective, not need estimate one approximate pulse template and not sensitive for noise type, and, being of important engineering value.
