A correlation between the isophotal-shape parameter a4/a (Bender et al., 1989) and the ultraviolet (UV) color index (1330 A - V) (Longo et al., 1989) is presented. Boxy galaxies are found to be UV brighter than disky galaxies. The interpretation of the correlation between Mg2 and the UV color suggested by Burstein et al. (1988) is also discussed. The results presented here add further evidence to the fact that the a4/a parameter reflects evolutionary and structural differences between two physical groups of E galaxies and give some support to the interpretation of the ultraviolet excess in terms of recent star formation.
