Coronal magnetic field models often treat the interaction of plasma and magnetic field either by limiting that interaction to thin current sheets or by imposing source surface boundary conditions that tacitly require volume currents in the outer corona. Yet numerical MHD calculations and observations suggest the presence of volume currents throughout the corona, along with thin current sheets in coronal streamers. This paper presents a simple model that includes both volume and sheet currents. The model builds on the magnetostatic equilibria developed by Hundhausen, Hundhausen, and Zweibel (1981), imposing boundary conditions appropriate to the presence of a current sheet in the outer corona. Comparison with MHD and source surface calculations shows that the dominant physical influence is that of the central current sheet, with volume currents playing a secondary role in shaping the coronal magnetic field.
