Over the past three years, the quasar 3C 454.3 has been one of the most variable blazars in the sky. We present a thorough study of the object comprised of data from the past 36 years. This data set captures the object in a quiescent state (R 16) and during the 2005 flare (R 12), with microvariability studies during both time periods. Our extensive optical light curve is combined with radio and x-ray data to track the spectral evolution of the object while transitioning between states. Also, the wide range in monitoring frequencies has allowed time series analysis in the form of the structure function and the power spectral density. The detection of a break in the optical power spectral density opens the door for a possible break timescale to super massive blackhole mass relationship similar to that seen in x-rays for radio quiet AGN.
