A composite H-R diagram for the peculiar red giants of the disk population is constructed using the available data for stars of types R, N, S, SC, MS, and Ba, along with theoretical evolutionary tracks. The N, S, SC, and MS stars approximately coincide with the sequence of normal M giants in the H-R diagram and can be identified with the helium-shell-flash phase of evolution. The early R stars and most Ba stars occupy the same region of the H-R diagram as normal K giants; the positions of these stars cannot be reconciled with current stellar-evolution calculations.
