We observe strong correlations between the temporal properties of GRBs and their apparent brightness. The strongest effect is the difference between the brightness distributions of simple and complex bursts. The latter has a break at a peak brightness of a factor 4 above threshold. The peak count rates of complex bursts systematically exceed those of simple bursts by a factor of about 2. The effect has a significance level of 10^{-6}. We also observe brightness dependent variations in the shape of the average time profile (ATP) of GRBs. The decaying slope of the ATP shows time stretching when comparing bright and dim bursts while the rising slope hardly changes. We give our interpretation of these effects.
