The SAO catalogue has been compared with AGK3R for 19596 stars having δ > 0°, and with Perth 70 for 18775 stars having δ < 0°. Plots are given showing the comparisons for 10° zones in δ. Systematic differences can exceed 0.5 arcsec in certain areas. Recommendations are made for the use of SAO in the optical identification of radio sources.
