A statistical analysis of the relationship between solar and atmospheric phenomena was performed using diurnal maps of the surface atmospheric pressure for periods of high and low geomagnetic activity during the years 1950 to 1976. An average 25% increase in the dispersion of the diurnal pressure differences was detected on the fourth day after a strong geomagnetic disturbance. The differences between maps of pressure distribution after strong sporadic geomagnetic disturbances and the average map for priods of low geomagnetic activity were studied, and it was found that the average pressure between latitudes 45 and 75 deg N was decreased about two mbar after strong sporadic disturbances. The statistical results are discussed.
