There are a number of established analogue and digital methods which may be used to process photographically recorded astronomical spectra reduced by densitometry. The authors have made a direct comparison on the same spectrogram of several representative processing methods and find that the different approaches yield quite comparable results. Examples of processed spectra are given and the relative merits of the different approaches are discussed.
