A model of ejection of gas parcels from above a star's photosphere, accelerated by radiation pressure, is considered in terms of available IUE observations of Mg II lines and recent H alpha profiles obtained for Beta Ori. The model is consistent with the observations for this star and with properties of discrete absorption components (DAC) detected in early type stars. However, the data are not sufficient for rigorous testing of DAC models since the observations are too sparse and not suitably spaced in time.
