I have compared a model of polarized maser emission with the model by Elitzur and the model by Watson. In an idealized case, in which the inhomogeneous linewidth greatly exceeds the Zeeman splitting, the theory of Gray & Field can be formally reduced to a set of equations which predict the same saturated energy-level populations as the theory by Watson. Conclusions identical to Watson's would therefore be expected in terms of the Stokes parameters under arbitrary levels of saturation, and in the absence of time-independent instabilities in the equations of radiative transfer.
