For both stochastic and density wave theory predictions, crude correlations with observed spiral arm properties are apparent along the Hubble sequence in the case of a sample of morphological property measurements for 17 galaxies. More detailed consideration shows poor agreement for both models, with arm pitch and arm widths being at least as well correlated with galaxy rotational velocities independently of the models, suggesting that the spiral structure trends observed along the Hubble sequence may be kinematic in origin.
