A comparison is made between the escape criteria of Birkhoff, Tevzadze, Standish, Griffith, and North, and Yoshida-Marchal for triple systems with a negative total energy. It is shown that in the case where the distant component is sufficiently isolated (rho is equal to or greater than 2D), the difference between the last three criteria is negligible. For all possible distances rho greater than D and for all body mass ratios, the Griffith and North and Yoshida-Marchal criteria provide optimum results with a minimum number of nondetected escapes.
