A procedure for comparing and testing the sets of harmonic coefficients for earth gravity field models (EMs) is presented. By means of this procedure, EMs are compared in terms of differences in the higher-frequency parts (HFPs) of the expansion into spherical parts. The HFPs are separated from the models according to the increase of prediction errors in the regions of power spectra flattening. The differences between the HFPs in several recent EMs are transformed into residual geoid heights and are briefly discussed. Emphasis is given to models of the Pacific area, including a generalized EM (GEM 8) of the linear patterns of alternating gravity anomalies west of Hawaii and Peru. A list of the contour plotting subroutines for the model projections is provided.
