Modeling stellar light is an essential step towards the physical interpretation of galaxy spectra. We have made an extensive comparison between two methods of stellar light modeling, the widely used principal component analysis (PCA) and the independent component analysis (ICA) introduced by Lu et al (2006), in terms of reproducing the starlight of galaxies and estimating the spectral parameters including starlight reddening, the 4000 Å break strength and Balmer absorption index Hδ. From tests on modeling galaxy spectra from Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS), we find that while both methods can recover reasonably well the 4000 Å break, Balmer absorption index and average starlight reddening, the ICA method can give more accurate estimate of starlight reddening. Measurements of spectral parameters on our modeled stellar spectra are preferable to measurements on the observed galaxy spectra, especially for those with relative low S/N. We also present correlation analysis among starlight reddening and properties of galaxies.
