The radial velocity fields of the Milky Way system are presently calculated by means of several different galactic rotation curves that are scaled to the new IAU values of 220 km/sec solar velocity and 8.5 kpc Galactic center-sun distance. Centrally symmetric streaming motions, spiral density waves, stochastic self-propagating spiral arm waves, and a galactic warp, are used to modify the model radial velocity fields. A 'grand design' spiral structure is assumed to exist in the Galaxy which could be created by a spiral density wave or by large scale detonation waves, as a result of self-propagating stochastic star formation processes. The multiple ambiguity of kinematic distances everywhere in the Galaxy is demonstrated.
