We present the analysis of Spitzer-IRS spectra of some 200 T Tauri stars in Taurus, Chamaeleon and Ophiuchus, which are three of the nearest star forming regions to us with median ages of about 1-2 Myr. The sensitivity and wavelength coverage of Spitzer-IRS allow a detailed study of crystallinity and dust processing in the protoplanetary disks surrounding Sun-like and lower mass stars than that has hitherto been possible. From the IRS spectra, we characterize the crystalline content and place constraints on its spatial distribution in the protplanetary disks. We use the results to study the relation between dust processing and the structure and evolution of disks and to test proposed mechanisms of crystallization and mixing in protoplanetary disks. Our previous study of the Taurus region has shown that crystalline grains tend to be confined to the inner disks (less than 10 AU) and that crystallanity of disks increases with the degree of dust settling to the disk midplane. Here we extend our analysis to Chamaeleon and Ophiuchus and carry out a comparative study of dust processing and crystallization in the protoplanetary disks in three different star forming regions.
