A method for determining the elements of a binary-star orbit is presented which is based on the Fourier transforms of the orbital equations and the observational data. This method, which is readily adapted to an electronic computer, yields the orbital parameters without graphical analysis, preliminary solution, or a 'least squares to differential corrections' in the multidimensional space. The only approximation required is in the evaluation of the coefficients in the Fourier expansion of the true anomaly, and the assumption that the period is known does not interfere with the solution of the orbits. It is noted that the method is adaptable to both 'visual' and spectroscopic binaries, that a good fit of the data to the five unknowns as a function of period can be achieved, and that the inclination of an orbit may be obtained from knowledge of the angles alone.
