The homogeneous, inverse square and Roche oscillatory models of adiabatic stars are reinvestigated, and the ratio between oscillation amplitude and distance from the center is developed in a power series. The convergence or divergence of the power series is seen as crucial to the drawing of physical conclusions. The mathematical arguments presented establish the divergence of the power series for the three models, demonstrating how far the analysis of pulsating stars may be advanced by means of elementary mathematics.
