It is shown that the ultraviolet flux-deficiency, recently discovered by Carruthers, in early-type supergiants compared to dwarfs of the same spectral type can be explained in terms of the effects of differences in surface-gravity and effective temperature between stars of these two luminosity classes. It thus appears that this deficiency does not represent a serious discrepancy between theory and observation.
