Photographic observations of meteors show numerous forms of photometric light curves with such features as terminal flares and a virtually invariant meteor luminosity over a significant part of the trajectory. In the present work an explanation is offered for these features which is based on the quasi-continuous fragmentation mechanism, with allowance for variability of the heat transfer coefficient.
