A catalog of 23 globular filaments is compiled. This class of objects is defined to include any filamentary dark cloud that clearly shows condensations into small discrete globules. It includes the Taurus dark clouds and other well-studied regions. The results suggest that the condensation process occurs in a hierarchical fashion and that the largest fragments are more or less equally spaced along the length of the filament, with a characteristic separation equal to 3 + or - 1 times their mean diameter. Many dark filaments are also asymmetric in a transverse direction, as are the adjacent star counts, giving these clouds a windswept appearance. It is proposed that such filaments are in fact swept up by external pressures and that they condense into globules by their own self-gravity.
