The Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at Penn State University has developed a multi-faceted approach to formal and informal science education and outreach that serves our educational and service mission. In the past few years, we have been successful in supporting our outreach program with funding proposals to the NASA ROSS Education and Public Outreach (E/PO) program. Penn State PIs who have been awarded Chandra and Hubble guest observer time have submitted supplement E/PO proposals to the Chandra and Hubble Cycle E/PO competitions as individuals, and also as part of an ``institutional'' or team proposal.
In this talk, I will present our experience with the NASA E/PO supplement proposal process and also give a brief overview of the variety of education and public outreach programs that we offer at Penn State, which includes an annual in-service workshop series for science teachers, a K-12 class field trip program, an annual festival of astronomy, a summer science camp for K-8 grade students, an open house observing program, and several other day-long or shorter events.
