A study of pulsating auroras carried out in northern Saskatchewan in January and February 1980 by 25 scientists from Canada and Japan is discussed. Ground-based optical and radio measurements were carried out on 34 nights in two successive dark moon periods; eight of these nights furnished good data on pulsating auroras. Two rockets were flown into pulsating auroral forms, one on February 15, the other on February 23. The field operations and certain results obtained are summarized.
