The tidal evolution of the earth-moon system during the Phanerozoic period is discussed. Tides in the paleoocean with an elastic bottom are studied in order to calculate tidal torque. Consideration is given to the transformation of the paleoocean contour due to continental drift. The data reveal that during the Phanerozoic period the torque and dissipation of the tidal energy changed nonmonotonically. The dependence of the dissipation of the tidal energy on the astronomical and geodynamical factors are analyzed using numerical experiments.
