The ionospheric electric current flow due to the (2,3) and (2,5) tidal modes is calculated using the equivalent circuit method. It is found that the (2,5) mode currents are negligible. The (2,3) mode currents form patterns which resemble several observations, including the meridional current pattern observed at Sain-Santin (Mazaudier and Venkateswaran, 1985), current flows on abnormal quiet days (Butcher, 1987), and the reverse equatorial electrojet (Stening, 1977). Other observations which may be explained by the features are the seasonal phase anomaly in the lunar geomagnetic tide (Stening and Winch, 1979) and the invasion of one hemisphere's current pattern by that from the opposite hemisphere (Mayaud, 1965).
