Early manifestations of newly formed massive stars such as Ultracompact HII regions and Hot Cores are associated with dense molecular cores. Determination of the basic physical parameters of the molecular cores like total mass, column density, etc. is hampered by high optical depths and uncertainties in the chemical abundance of the molecular probes which are often used to study regions of massive star formation. To address these problems we have observed 16 sources in the C(17) O J=1-0, 2-1 transitions with the IRAM 30m telescope as well as the C(17) O J=2-1, 3-2 transitions with the KOSMA 3m telescope. Here we present preliminary results of this survey.
