The authors have surveyed in 12CO (2-1) some 80 southern dark clouds with and without associated nebulosities. In general, they detected CO in about half of the clouds surveyed. Most of the dark clouds without visible nebulosity do not show any indication of embedded energy sources; about 40 percent of the clouds with associated nebulosity also show little indication of dynamical interaction with a central energy source despite the presence of nebulosities. Significantly enhanced "wing" emission (mostly red wing emission) is seen in about a quarter of the detected cases. Of the sources mapped, L1642 and the Coalsack globules appear to be quiescent, whereas the others (L1645, CG30, HH46/47, HH52/53/54, GGD27/28) do show signs of mass flows; particularly in the case of GGD27/28, strong mass outflows from a central object seem responsible for the observed line profiles.
