The authors consider a very simplified model of interstellar dynamics based on the Burgers equation. The gas is assumed isobaric, and randomly occurring supernova explosions are assumed to give impulses to their surroundings. Voids appear and expand until a single void and two dense clouds fill the entire grid. This may qualitatively describe the development of the observed structure of cloud and hot coronal gas.
