We use an area scanner coupled with a monochromator to study the variation of the first four Balmer lines across a globule seen projected on the Orion nebula. The analysis demonstrates the reality of the globule and allows an estimate of the amount of foreground emission. We derive a mass for the globule between 0.002 and 0.0033 solar mass under various assumptions. We conclude that the globule is too low in mass to be a protostar.
