Scientific paper

The main objective of the OLIMPO project, a large stratospheric
telescope, is the measurement of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect in many
clusters of galaxies during a long-duration balloon flight. We describe
the OLIMPO experiment, and outline the scientific rationale of
balloon-borne measurements of the effect.
