Subtle differences between Newtonian gravity and observed gravity have until now been fully accounted for, without adjustable parameters, only by GR. The Newton inverse square law has been found to give exactly the same results, without adjustable parameters, when mass is allowed to change scalarly with speed and with gravity. In addition to the SR γ boost of rest mass, the gravitational boost is 1/α = 1/(1+GM/rc^2). On substituting m=m0 γ/α, and accounting for the metric changes of distance and time, i.e. r=(α/γ)r and τ^*=(α/γ)τ, the three classical tests of GR are easily reproduced. The apparent curvature of space, in GR, is shown to derive from scalar changes of the metric. This back-door approach to gravity gives the same answers as GR without the mathematical complexity of tensor calculus.
