The 0.83 d periodicity, noted by Chester (1977) in the marching dips observed in the X-ray intensity of Her X-1, is discussed and shown to result naturally from a 35 d cycle, thereby disqualifying the discovery of a 0.83 d period as evidence for a 70 d cycle. It is also indicated that a 1.66 d dip recurrence period is incompatible with available X-ray observations at a high level of significance.
