The theoretical study and experimental calibration of an objective grating for the high-resolution spectroscopy of astronomical faint sources in the EUV and far-UV wavelength ranges are discussed. Theoretical results demonstrate the feasibility of the concept, which involves an aspheric shape for the grating blank. Test results for a prototype grating associated with a photon counting detector show that a resolving power of 3 x 10 to the 4th, a total equivalent effective area of about 5-10 sq cm, and a very low scattered light level can be achieved.
