Nineteen dark nebulae have been observed at 3.4-mm wavelength in the J = 1-0 line of HCN and in the continuum. HCN emission has been detected toward nine of these clouds. Upper limits are set on the continuum brightness temperature, and estimates are obtained for the HCN and dust column densities. In the HCN emission regions of the clouds the density is at least 100,000/cu cm. Comparison with CO data places a lower limit on the relative C-13O abundance in these objects. The correlation between the HCN line intensity and the column density of C-13O molecules is discussed.
