A 183 GHz heterodyne radiometer was built for the Microwave Limb Sounder experiment, designed to measure atmospheric thermal emission from selected molecular species at millimeter wavelengths on the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. The radiometer includes a broad band quasioptical coupler, a solid state local oscillator, and a whisker contacted varistor diode single-ended waveguide mixer.
