We request 300 hours on the Mopra telescope to complete a 12CO(J=1-0) survey of the molecular gas in the inner 1.4 kpc of the LMC. The primary objectives of the survey are i) to study the relationship between the molecular and atomic gas in the LMC and ii) to improve our understanding the properties of molecular clouds in metal-poor environments. In combination with our observations of the molecular gas near 30 Doradus, the survey will cover ~70% of the molecular gas in the LMC, enabling the most precise determination of the mass spectrum and size-linewidth relation for molecular clouds in another galaxy. The project constitutes the main observations for the PI's PhD research on molecular clouds in a range of interstellar environments.
