The transient X-ray binary system A 0535+26/HDE 245770 was monitored at different wavelengths since its discovery as X-ray emitter. These coordinated observations reveal correlations in the variability of the optical and X-ray emissions. During activity periods of the system, UV discrete absorption components in Si IV and C IV resonance lines whose velocities vary between -300 and -600 km/sec were detected. The study of the narrow absorption components at the expected activity epochs (periastron passages of the neutron star) simultaneously with X-ray, optical, and IR observations is essential for a better knowledge of the wind structure of the Be star and its interaction with the neutron star. The physics and dynamics of mass transfer at periastron and subsequent X-ray flaring, are emphasized.
