A method to make honeycomb sandwich mirrors has been developed, casting
in one piece in a complex mold. The furnace spins while the glass is
liquid to form the curved face of the mirror. Following tests at the 1.8
m size, a facility for casting 8 m mirrors has been constructed, with a
12 m diameter turntable.
