September 2000 saw the first regularly scheduled use of the MDM Observatory's 8K CCD Imager, constructed by Columbia University, with aid from The Ohio State University and Dartmouth College, with prime subcontractor GL Scientific Co. In its first semester it successfully completed over 70 nights of observation and had quickly become one on the most popularly scheduled instruments at MDMO. It is a 8192 by 8192 pixel imager made from 8 SITe 2K-by-4K CCDs, which are of excellent cosmetic quality and good throughput in U through I bands. We discuss some of the design features of this (very inexpensively constructed) instrument, its performance and operation, and some of the science programs that have already been completed since its first use.
