Results are reported for photometric (number of colors and system unspecified) and spectroscopic observations of the B3 V star 53 Psc. It is found that the star is variable in both luminosity and radial velocity, with a photometric period of about 0.08 day and a spectroscopic period of 0.055 day, and that the line profiles also vary. These features are shown to be characteristic of the variability of the Beta CMa stars that lie close to 53 Psc in the H-R diagram. It is proposed that 53 Psc is a member of the Beta CMa group of short-period variables and that the spectral boundaries of this group should be extended at least to B0 and B3.
